A report by consulting firm Deloitte, based on a survey of 500 senior cloud decision-makers in the US across a wide range of industries, found that organisations are increasingly using cloud investments to boost business performance, drive strategic outcomes and enable breakthrough innovation.

The contribution cloud plays in enabling business strategy can be significant, the report noted, and cloud-based technologies can deliver value in ways organisations might not yet realise.

While cloud is now the default platform for business, many organisations remain hesitant to modernise their systems—putting themselves at risk by running End-of-Life (EOL) equipment.

Deloitte identified nine positive business outcomes of cloud transition:

  1. Building net-new product or service revenue
  2. Providing better sustainability in support of environmental goals
  3. Expanding existing products or revenue streams
  4. Creating new operational processes or workflows
  5. Reducing and optimising costs
  6. Developing new ideas, approaches or methodologies
  7. Increasing efficiency and agility
  8. Mitigating business and regulatory risk
  9. Expanding into new markets

Modernising Systems via Successful Cloud Transition

For organisations running End-of-Life or near-EOL systems—particularly those operating legacy IBM Power Systems hardware—moving to the cloud to modernise is the clear choice.

Why would any organisation want to take the risk of running critical applications on EOL systems that are long past their prime and present a significant possibility of data loss or system failure?

Beyond the risks of downtime and data loss, a company could face legal and compliance issues, including failure to meet regulatory requirements. Failure to comply with mandates such as data privacy laws can be costly.

The Key to Cloud Transition Success

The key to a successful cloud transition is finding an experienced partner who can assess your EOL environment, identify risks and recommend solutions that ensure a smooth, secure migration to the cloud. Before making the decision to move off EOL systems, it’s essential to do your homework.

Look for an experienced cloud services provider with a proven track record of guiding organisations of all sizes and complexities from EOL systems to the cloud.

The right provider should clearly outline the benefits of migrating to the cloud, provide a step-by-step process and work alongside you throughout the transition.
