CloudFirst Helps Apparel Company’s Back Up Systems Buttoned Up
COMPANY OVERVIEW
S. Rothschild & Co. is a luxury manufacturer of women’s, men’s and children’s coats and outerwear, with a tradition of excellence dating back over 135 years. Operating out of the garment district of Manhattan, they offer an impressive lineup of proprietary brands, including Larry Levine, Mackintosh, Maralyn & Me, Below Zero and Rothschild.
THE CHALLENGE
S. Rothschild’s on-premise IBM i server was coming to the end of its useful lives. In addition, their software licensing was also about to expire. Alex Boym, the SVP of Information & Technology, was reluctant to make any largescale IT changes and was leaning toward replacing the hardware over migrating the database to the cloud.
THE SOLUTION
After talking to CloudFirst, it was determined that the costs for replacing the servers would be too high, coupled with the expense of managing the database. They decided to work with CloudFirst to move to IBM Cloud Backup, a cloud-hosted system. Working against Rothschild’s very short implementation schedule, CloudFirst’s team of engineers—from networking to backup to hosting—worked collaboratively with Rothschild to develop the overall infrastructure design and migration strategy, ensuring the transfer would take place with minimal disruption to the company’s day-to-day business operations.
THE RESULTS
All onsite applications were shifted to the cloud with no downtime experienced at Rothchild & Co.’s many warehouses and remote offices at any point during the migration. They have since found the performance of the system to be faster and more reliable than with the on-premise server, and they have been particularly pleased with the hosted solution’s daily backups, which all but eliminate the need for tapes. And now that they’re hosted in a secure remote environment, Rothchild is better prepared for any kind of disaster, from major storms to ransomware to simple human error.
